At first the flight from Tokyo, Japan to Sydney, Australia was relaxing, but we soon found ourselves restless on the 14 hour 20 minute flight. We arrived in Sydney at 7:05 am and immediately made our way to the cap pick-up area, we had slept on the plane so we were energized! We had booked a 3 hour cab to Canberra, Australia's capital city. The cab ride was long but beautiful. We got to see Australia’s breathtaking landscape as we drove. The cab took exactly 3 hours and it was now 10:00. Once we arrived in canberra we were told we had to take selfies with local art in the art museum that had been commodified. This would be quite difficult because we had no clue what the local art looked like it had been assimilated years earlier by the australian people. There was ancient art everywhere, but we were unsure how to tell what was local and what was forienge, we eventually found the local art section and it had taken about 2 hours. In total we had taken pictures of three art pieces each. After we were done with the challenge, It was now 12:00pm and we made our way back to the car. The drive from canberra to melbourne was very similar to the drive earlier, it was still interesting just not very varied. Melbourne is a beautiful city, once we arrived at 6:30 we couldn’t help but admire it. Then we received our second challenge of the day to go eat cultural dishes at the queen victoria market, this was a great challenge because we were all hungry. We ended up having Chicken Parmigiana, an Originally eggplant based dish, that has evolved into a chicken schnitzel topped with tomato sauce, melted cheese and prosciutto ham. It was bewildering and left us in absolute awe of how amazing it tasted, but we still had another dish to find. We ended up finding Lamingtons, a square-shaped sponge like cake dipped in chocolate and coated with desiccated coconut. It was clear why the food was part of the Local Culture because It was to die for! It was by far one of the best foods we had the entire trip. After we were done eating, it was 8:00pm and we decided to head back to the taxi. The taxi took us to the airport where we had a 9:00pm 8 hour flight to darwin airport. Once we boarded the plane we fell asleep quickly because of all the food we ate, we slept very well. When we woke up the plane was landing at darwin airport. Once we landed we took a moment to take the massive change of landscape between darwin and melbourne, then we grabbed our bags and ran to the taxi. The taxi took us to the river dock where we received our final challenge to take pictures of unique animals on the Kathrine day cruise tour. The cruise didn’t depart until 6:30am and it was currently 5:20am so we had plenty of time to walk around Darwin which is an absolutely beautiful coastal city. When we boarded the cruise we were greeted by a nice tour guide. The tour was absolutely stunning as we slowly made our way through kakadu national park. We spotted so many saltwater crocodiles, they were slightly uglier than the american alligators we were used to. We saw an entire herd of kangaroos while eating lunch next to a waterfall. As we traveled further along the river we spotted Black wallaroos, Agile wallaby, Short-eared rock-wallaby, and finally an Australian darter. The boat took us back to the dock at 8:30pm and we got back to the airport just in time for our flight back to Chicago. Australia was absolutely amazing, but it was now time to end things off in Chicago where it all started.
